z/OS MVS JCL TROUBLESHOOTING

THE COURSE: This two-day class concentrates on failures related to JCL in a z/OS MVS environment, explaining the meaning of each failure and ways to correct, minimize or prevent it.  It expands on a broad variety of failures focusing mostly on ABENDs, the great majority of which are JCL-related and can be corrected through JCL without any programming changes or dump analysis.  The most common of these failures, such as S001, S013, S213, S413, S613, S813, S878, S804, S80A, S806, SB14, SB37, SD37, SE37, S837, and more (including several reason codes for each ABEND) are analyzed. The discussion focuses on problem determination, correction, and when possible, prevention.  JCL that promotes efficiency of execution and good resource utilization is also discussed.  The effect of SMS is fully analyzed, detailing failures which are unique in an SMS-managed environment, manifested differently, or eliminated.
THE AUDIENCE: Any technical personnel (programming, operations and especially tech support) who need to sharpen their troubleshooting skills.  Adequate JCL knowledge is prerequisite.

INTRODUCTION TO z/OS MVS/JES2 FOR OPERATORS

THE COURSE: This two-day class begins with an introduction to z/OS MVS/JES2 concepts and terminology from an operations standpoint.  Discussion of a selected group of MVS commands used in an everyday environment follows, focusing on those needed to control peripheral devices and recovery.  Critical console messages and the proper operator responses are analyzed.  The class concludes with a discussion of selected JES2 commands, focusing on those necessary to control printers, initiators and jobs at the input, execution and output stage.
THE AUDIENCE: Operations personnel with limited or no experience under z/OS MVS/JES2.  Also, supervisory personnel who need some basic technical familiarity with the daily operations environment.
THE FEE: $875 per student.


z/OS MVS TSO/ISPF

THE COURSE: This two-day class begins with an introduction to TSO and z/OS MVS concepts.  Then it covers a number of frequently used TSO commands, including an introduction to CLISTs.  An extensive discussion of ISPF (PDF) follows, explaining "Settings" but mostly focusing on the commands used to exploit the powerful capabilities of the EDIT (and VIEW) option. Special attention is given to handling data sets (sequential, partitioned or PDSEs - and their members): creating, copying, moving, compressing, printing, deleting, etc., as well as analyzing their attributes.  Also discussed are the various ways of executing some useful IDCAMS commands under ISPF. The ability to view (as well as print, save, etc.) the output of executed jobs using SDSF (Search & Display Spool Facility) is fully analyzed
THE AUDIENCE: Programmers, analysts, technical support specialists, operators, supervisory personnel who have limited or no exposure to TSO/ISPF.
